Description:

  • Warm, moist conditions are favourable for the occurrence of maize anthracnose.

Damage Symptoms:

  • Leaves develop black, water-soaked lesions that eventually turn tan with dark margins.
  • Black streaks and lesions appear on the stem, weakening the plant structure and leading to lodging.
  • Infected stalks result in poor ear development and grain filling.
  • Reduced yield and premature death are observed in severely affected plants.

Preventive Measures:

  • Practice crop rotation.

Control Measures:

  • Apply azoxystrobin or thiophanate-methyl.
