Bacterial Leaf Spot

Capsicum

Name: Bacterial Leaf Spot

Scientific Name: Xanthomonas campestris pv. vesicatoria

Crop: Capsicum

Description:

  •  Moderate temperatures, along with high precipitation and relative humidity, favour the occurrence of this disease.

Damage Symptoms:

  •  Water-soaked, circular, or irregular lesions occur on leaves.
  •  The lesions are generally sunken on the upper surface and slightly raised on the lower surface.
  • These spots coalesce, resulting in a blighted appearance.
  •  Leaves turn yellow and fall prematurely.
  •  Elongated, narrow lesions occur on stems.
  •  Green to brown, raised spots with a cracked, rough, wart-like appearance develop on fruits.
  • Under high humidity, rotting occurs around the lesions on fruits.

Preventive Measures:

  •  Avoid water logging conditions in the field.
  •  Avoid overhead irrigation.
  •  Practice crop rotation.

Control Measures:

  • Spray copper oxychloride or streptocycline.
