Description:

  • Continuous drizzling and wet weather are favourable conditions for the occurrence of this disease.

Damage Symptoms:

  • This fungus can affect the cabbage crop at any stage of growth.
  • Brown cankers appear near the base of the stem.
  •  Cankers enlarge and girdle the stem.
  • Severe black discolouration of the sap stream can be seen when the stem is split open.
  • Attacked roots also show dark brown cankers.
  •  The root system decays from the bottom upwards.

Preventive Measures:

  • Practice deep summer ploughing.
  • Maintain proper soil drainage.

Control Measures:

  • Drench with copper oxychloride or carbendazim.
