Description:

  • High soil moisture, poorly drained soil, dense canopy, and several cultivated crop hosts and weeds are favourable conditions for collar rot.
  • The disease spreads through infected soil, contaminated tools, infected seedlings, and water.

Damage Symptoms:

  • The lower portion of the stem is affected by the soil-borne inoculum. Decortications are observed.
  • Exposure and necrosis of underlying tissues may lead to the collapse of the plant.
  • Mycelia and sclerotia are seen at the lower part of the stem.

Preventive Measures:

  • Collection and destruction of diseased plant parts and portions.

Control Measures:

  • Seed treatment with 4g of Trichoderma viride formulation per kg of seed.
  • Spraying with Mancozeb at 2g/L of water.
