Description:
This disease occurs under conditions of high soil moisture and high relative humidity, especially during the rainy season.
Damage Symptoms:
Pre-emergence damping off: Seeds and seedlings rot before emergence from the soil.
Post-emergence damping off: Water-soaked, brown discoloration at the collar region of the seedlings, softening of plant tissues, and collapse of seedlings.
Preventive Measures:
Treat seeds with thiram or captan at 4 g/kg, or Trichoderma viride at 4 g/kg, or Pseudomonas fluorescens at 10 g/kg before sowing.
Control Measures:
Drench nursery soil with copper oxychloride at 0.25% or Bordeaux mixture at 1%.
