Scientific Name: Pythium spp. or Rhizoctonia solani

Crop: Capsicum

Description:

  •  Cool and moist climatic conditions, along with heavy rainfall, favour the occurrence of this disease.
  • Poorly drained soil and close spacing may also lead to damping off.

Damage Symptoms:

  • Infection occurs at the base of seedlings just above the ground level.
  • Affected seedlings wilt and eventually die.
  •  Any damage to seedlings during transplanting may also cause damping off or seedling wilt.

Preventive Measures:

  • Avoid excessive irrigation and maintain proper drainage.
  • Maintain proper spacing.

Control Measures:

  • Apply Carbendazim or Copper Oxychloride.
