Description:
• The organism remains viable in residual infected crop debris and soil, which act as primary sources of infection.
• The incidence of this disease is especially high during the Kharif season and can cause 60-75% losses.
Damage Symptoms:
• Pre-emergence damping off leads to decay of the seedlings along with the seeds, even before they emerge from the soil.
• Post-emergence damping off is characterized by collar rotting. The collar region of the seedling becomes rotten, resulting in the collapse of the seedlings and, subsequently, death.
Preventive Measures:
• Do not overwater plants.
• Avoid continuously raising the nursery in the same plot.
Control Measures:
• Treat seeds with Captan or Thiram at 2g/kg of seeds.
