Conidia are spread by rain droplets. Warm, moist environments favour the occurrence of this disease.
Both fruits in the field and in storage can be affected.
Damage Symptoms:
Initially, discolouration of the fruit skin occurs, forming brown superficial blemishes that result in 1–3 cm wide, slightly dimpled, circular depressions.
Mycelium growth can be observed within the spots.
Fruits rot and eventually fall.
Preventive Measures:
Apply foliar sprays of 0.1% carbendazim.
Control Measures:
Appl thiophanate-methyl 0.1% or mancozeb 0.2% at weekly intervals.
Stored produce decay caused by the pathogen can be managed through the application of benzyl isothiocyanate.
