Fusarium Wilt

Ridge Gourd

Name: Fusarium Wilt

Scientific Name: Fusarium oxysporum

Crop: Ridge Gourd

Description:

  • Fusarium wilt is a soil-borne disease.
  • High soil temperature and high soil moisture are favourable conditions for the occurrence of this disease.

Damage Symptoms:

  • Lower leaves start turning yellow, and yellowing progresses upward, eventually leading to wilting.
  • Nutrient flow is restricted, causing stunted growth and poor flowering.
  • When the stem is cut open, brown discolouration is observed in the vascular tissue.
  • During the daytime, plants tend to wilt, recover at night, but eventually die.

Preventive Measures:

  • Plant resistant cultivars.
  • Maintain proper soil drainage.

Control Measures:

  • Mix in water and drench the soil with thiophanate-methyl, copper oxychloride, or Trichoderma viride.
