LongHorn Beetle

Drumstick

Name: LongHorn Beetle

Scientific Name: Batocera rufomaculata

Crop: Drumstick

Description:

  • The highest population of the longhorn beetle is observed during the late summer months when the plant enters its reproductive growth stage.
  • It is widely distributed across the Indian subcontinent.

Damage Symptoms:

  • Grubs create zig-zag burrows beneath the bark, feed on internal tissues, and reach the sapwood, causing the affected branch or stem to die.
  • Adults feed on the bark of young twigs and petioles.

Preventive Measures:

  • Prune the plant and destroy the infested areas to prevent the pest from spreading to other parts of the moringa plant.

Control Measures:

  • Inject monocrotophos at 2 ml/l into infested tree trunks or apply carbaryl 50 WP in boreholes.
