Nematodes

Tomato

Name: Nematodes

Scientific Name: Meloidogyne spp.

Crop: Tomato

Description:

  • Nematode infestation occurs mainly during the wet-warm seasons, usually in late spring and summer.

  • Formation of root galls or knots. These root galls interfere with nutrient uptake, causing stunted growth in plants.
  •  Yellowing and wilting of tomato leaves, along with falling tomato fruits.
  •  Heavily infested tomato plants show stunted growth, reduced vigour, and fewer fruits.

Preventive Measures:

  •  Practice crop rotation.
  •  Perform deep summer ploughing.

Control Measures:

  • Apply Carbofuran or Phorate to the soil.
