Pod fly activity is at its peak from April to October and gradually reduces after this period. The adult fly is small, yellowish in colour, and has red eyes.
Damage Symptoms:
The maggots make small holes at the terminal end of tender fruits to enter.
This results in gummy fluid oozing from the fruits, which eventually dries out from the tip upwards.
Preventive Measures:
Regularly rake the soil under the trees or plough the affected field to destroy the puparium.
Control Measures:
Spray dichlorvos 76 SC at 500 ml or malathion 50 EC at 750 ml when pods are 20-30 days old.
Use Azadirachtin 0.03% at 1.0 L during 50% fruit set and repeat 35 days later.
