Cool and moist weather is favourable for the occurrence of this disease.
Damage Symptoms:
Soft, water-soaked lesions can be seen on cabbage seedlings near the soil level.
The cotyledons wither, and the seedlings fall over and eventually die.
When older cabbage plants are infected, the lower part of the stem shows discolouration and becomes hard and woody. This phenomenon is known as wire stem.
Preventive Measures:
Dip the cababge seedlings in a solution prepared by mixing 2g of carbendazim in 1 litre of water before planting.
