Description:

  • Cool and moist weather is favourable for the occurrence of this disease.

Damage Symptoms:

  • Soft, water-soaked lesions can be seen on cabbage seedlings near the soil level.
  • The cotyledons wither, and the seedlings fall over and eventually die.
  • When older cabbage plants are infected, the lower part of the stem shows discolouration and becomes hard and woody. This phenomenon is known as wire stem.

Preventive Measures:

  • Dip the cababge seedlings in a solution prepared by mixing 2g of carbendazim in 1 litre of water before planting.

Control Measures:

  • Drench with Copper Oxychloride or Carbendazim.
