Description:

  • Dry seasons with high temperatures are favourable for thrips infestation in tomato plants.

Damage Symptoms:

  • The leaves exhibit silvery or bronze colouration, primarily along the edges.
  • Young leaves of tomato plants become curled upward and distorted.
  • Severe infestation leads to stunted growth of the tomato plants. The size and quality of the tomato fruit are also affected.
  • Thrips can also transmit the tomato spotted wilt virus.

Preventive Measures:

  • Install sticky traps in the field.

Control Measures:

  • Spray spinosad 0.3 ml/l or imidacloprid 0.5 ml/l.
