Description:

  • Infestation of whitefly in tomatoes usually occurs during warm and dry seasons.

Damage Symptoms:

  • Whiteflies suck sap from the leaves, resulting in chlorosis or yellowing of leaves.
  • Whiteflies excrete honeydew, which promotes the growth of sooty mould, resulting in reduced photosynthesis.
  • Severe infestations can lead to curling, wilting of leaves, and stunted growth of the plant.
  • Whiteflies may also transmit the tomato yellow leaf curl virus.

Preventive Measures:

  • Install yellow sticky traps in the field.

Control Measures:

  •  Foliar spray of imidacloprid 0.4 ml/l or acetamiprid 0.2 g/l.
