Wilt and Root Rot

Green Gram

Name: Wilt and Root Rot

Scientific Name: Fusarium oxysporum (Wilt), Rhizoctonia solani (Root Rot)

Crop: Green Gram

Description:

  • Wilt and root rot commonly develop in poorly drained soils or wet fields during the early growth and flowering stages of green gram.
  • These diseases can cause severe losses, sometimes up to 50%, if not managed promptly.

Damage Symptoms:

  • Lower leaves turn yellow and wilt.
  • Roots become black and soft, with reduced growth due to root rot.
  • Nodulation decreases, and leaves begin to fall prematurely in infected plants.
  • In severe cases, plants may die prematurely, leading to reduced yields.

Preventive Measures:

  • Practice crop rotation to minimize disease occurrence.
  • Treat seeds with Bavistin or Trichoderma viride before sowing.

Control Measures:

  • Apply fungicides such as carbendazim at 1 g/l or copper oxychloride at 2 g/l to the soil at the early stages of infection.
