Description

  • It usually occurs in the early stages of tomato seedlings during the nursery stage.

Damage Symptoms

  • This disease is of two types, namely pre-emergence damping off and post-emergence damping off.
  • In pre-emergence damping off, the seedlings are affected before they emerge from the soil.
  • In post-emergence damping off, the seedlings are affected after they emerge.
  • The affected seedlings become pale and suddenly collapse.
  • The basal cortical region begins to rot, resulting in the toppling of the seedlings.

Preventive Measures

  • Avoid excessive watering and maintain proper drainage.

Control Measures

  • Drench with copper oxychloride or carbendazim.
