Description:

  • Warm temperatures with high humidity are favourable conditions for the occurrence of leaf blight.

Damage Symptoms:

  • Large, elongated, greyish or brown lesions appear on leaves, generally parallel to the veins.
  • Lesions may merge, causing extensive leaf blight and early leaf drop.
  • Grain filling and yield are affected due to a reduced photosynthetic area.
  • In severe cases, the plant takes on a burned appearance, with impaired ear development.

Preventive Measures:

  • Practice crop rotation.
  • Remove affected plants from the field.

Control Measures:

  • Apply azoxystrobin or mancozeb.
