Leaf Webber

Cauliflower

Name: Leaf Webber

Scientific Name: Crocidolomia binotalis

Crop: Cauliflower

Description:

  • Leaf webber infestations occur mainly during cooler months, especially during the monsoon or winter seasons. The pest primarily affects young plants and can spread quickly, causing significant damage if not controlled.

Damage Symptoms:

  • The larvae of the leaf webber feed on leaves, causing webbing.
  • This leads to significant damage to the plant's foliage, hindering photosynthesis and resulting in stunted growth.
  • Severe infestations can damage the curd (head), affecting both its quality and the overall yield.

Preventive Measures:

  • Remove and destroy infested plant debris.
  • Practice crop rotation.

Control Measures:

  • Apply chlorpyrifos (2 ml/l) or cypermethrin (0.5 ml/l) at 15 and 30 DAS.
