Description:

  • Cool, dry climatic conditions are favourable for the occurrence of this disease.
  • The virus is transmitted by aphids.

Damage Symptoms:

  • Mosaic mottling of leaves.
  • Symptoms are mild in the early stages but become severe later.
  • Infected leaves are deformed, small, and leathery.
  • Very few fruits are produced on infected plants.
  • Severely infected leaves become small and misshapen.
  • Plants infected at an early stage remain stunted.

Preventive Measures:

  • Install yellow sticky traps at a rate of 12 per hectare.
  • Rogue out infected plants.

Control Measures:

  • Spray dimethoate or methyl demeton at 2 ml/litre.
